Last December 12, 2015, a half-day medical mission initiated by Dra. Trinidad Vera of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) and the Presentation of the Child Jesus (PCJ) Parish, under the guidance of its Parish Priest, Rev. Fr Rodel Paulino, was put up at the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) Building, which is located at the rear of PCJ Parish. The day started early with the technical staff of CSMC setting up the ultrasound machines to be used in the mission. By 7:00am, Dra. Vera and some 20 volunteer doctors from CSMC were ready to give free medical check up to some of the female parishioners of PCJ.
The doctors and staff attended to 90 women that day. The women underwent medical check-up that included an ultrasound and papsmear. By the end of their check-up the women felt assured that they were free of any female reproductive issues.
Aside from the check-up, the women also received a brief lecture on proper hygene as well as measures they can take to reduce the risk of getting cancer. What made the lecture more fun were the parlor games in which some of the patients got the chance to bring home some prizes. Even more, each patient was not allowed to go home without a packed lunch prepared by the medical volunteers.
The medical checkup and short lecture were all given for free through the generosity of the beautiful people of CSMC and PCJ Parish. At the conclusion of the medical mission, Fr. Rodel gave the CSMC volunteers tokens of appreciation for their generosity and kindness.
