First place winner Divina Diaz had this to say about her passion in photography and winning the contest:

I have been passionate about photography since my Dad bought me my first camera, a Kodak-110, when I was in high school. In college, he bought me a Nikon camera, which I brought with me everyday! Even if photography isn’t my profession, the passion for it is strong within me.

With photography, I have tangible memories of people that touched my life, places that I have been to, and events that I have been a part of. It is a way of preserving the beauty that I see all around me. Presenting my photographs and having others appreciate them is like sharing what I have experienced.

During special celebrations, I always bring my camera to church. When I learned about the PCJ Fiesta photo contest, I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to share my passion with the community. In my mind, I had a vision of the photo I wanted to capture. Hearing my name called as the first prize winner was an amazing experience.
