“Let the children come to me and do not prevent them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” – Matthew 19:14
10 February 2018 was a special day – a date when Father Willie Ramos fulfilled one of his cherished mission as a priest — that of forming a ministry for people with special needs in every parish where he is assigned. It was the day when Happybilities was formally formed and the occasion when the 1st “Misa sa Mesa” was celebrated.
A few months earlier, Father Willie gathered children with special needs and their family and friends who loved and cared for them in a ” Celebration of life” mass. During the mass, Father W revealed that his vocation was greatly influenced and shaped by his experience with children with special needs. As a way of giving back to these children and their family, he will form a ministry for them; thus, Happybilites was formed.
1. Spreading happiness is the greatest ability. The joy of receiving spontaneous gestures and actions from people with special needs — a hug, a smile, a gentle smack on the cheek, a shy smile, a frown, a giggle, a cry — gestures and actions that come from the heart with no pretensions, no hesitation — is a blessing from pure and innocent souls. People with special needs are a source of joy, love and hope.
2. Happybilities was inspired by Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength”. People with special needs are able to do things typical people can. In truth, we are more alike than different. We are all insufficient and are only able through God’s grace.
3. Happybilities exists to share God’s love, grace and mercy, His faithfulness, through the lives of people with special needs and their families, to remind people that we are ” impossible without Christ…” and only “possible through Christ” (Matthew 19:26). It is an extended family, a support system, a community.
It is the vision of Happybilities to build a community which celebrates, nurtures and develops the abilities of people with special needs, finding opportunities and possibilities for them, make them active participants in the evangelization efforts of the Church and in the building of the kingdom of God.
